Nadia Sohier Zaman
Team Leader, Writer, Editor, Earth Negotiations Bulletin
Nadia Sohier Zaman is a Team Leader, Reporter and Editor with Earth Negotiations Bulletin, as well as a Deputy Director and Senior Adviser with the Canadian government.
In her duties in the Canadian Public Service, Nadia has advised Assistant Deputy Ministers and Deputy Ministers on Canada's bilateral science and technology treaties as well as promoting the role of science diplomacy in Canada's foreign policy. She oversees Global Affairs Canada's Joint Science and Technology Cooperation Committees with the UK and other European treaty partners and represents Canada in international negotiations for United Nations multilateral environmental agreements. She has provided support on numerous PM and Ministerial State Visits and has delivered Memorandum of Understandings formalising the science, technology and innovation relationship between Canada and partner countries.
Previously, Nadia has worked with the United Nations Environment Programme, where she led on the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity's South-South Cooperation for Biodiversity programme and the Rio Conventions Pavilion. She has also provided consultative services for the Multilateral Fund Secretariat for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol supporting the reporting of developing countries in their obligations for the phasing out of ozone-depleting substances.
Nadia holds a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University in Economics and Middle East Studies and a Master of Science from the University of Glasgow in Environment and Sustainable Development.
