Targeted Topics Forum: “Monitoring and Evaluation of National Adaptation Plans: Strengthening Adaptation Processes”
National monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of adaptation looks at progress towards adaptation in a country. This may involve looking at progress in implementing adaptation-related investments, policies, plans and processes, as well as impacts that these may have.
In February 2017, the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Global Network reconvened a cohort of adaptation planners from developing countries for a Targeted Topics Forum (TTF) on M&E in the NAP process. This forum will build on previous TTFs focused on integrating adaptation considerations into government planning, building political support for NAPs and options for financing NAP implementation.
The objectives of this TTF were to:
- Ensure developing country participants have a strong foundation in the key topics needed to design, implement and use results of M&E systems as a part of their NAP process.
- Identify key challenges, best practices and emerging opportunities related to the monitoring and evaluation of adaptation in the NAP process.
- Promote dialogue between actors from developing countries and bilateral donors to enable an exchange of views on effective ways to conduct and support M&E as part of the NAP process.
