Sustainable Infrastructure Workshop in Dakar
IISD organized a round table on the financial attractiveness of sustainable infrastructure and the Sustainable Asset Valuation (SAVi) tool in partnership with the Ministry of Mines and Geology of Senegal.
IISD organized a round table on the financial attractiveness of sustainable infrastructure in Dakar, Senegal.
The purpose of the round table was to present the Sustainable Asset Valuation (SAVi) tool methodology to the participants, as well as create opportunities for potential application on various infrastructure projects in Senegal, including public-private partnership (PPP) projects.
The workshop was developed in partnership with the Ministry of Mines and Geology of Senegal and with the financial support of UNCTAD and the Mava Foundation.
Some 23 participants from the following institutions attended the roundtable on January 18, 2018: Ministry of Mines and Geology; Société des Mines de Fer du Sénégal Oriental (MIFERSO); Ministry of Economy, Finance and Planning; Ministry of Infrastructure; AGEROUTE Sénégal; Bureau opérationnel de Suivi du Plan Sénégal Emergent (BOS); Agence de Promotion des Investissements (APIX Sénégal); Senegal Chamber of Mines; Fondation MAVA; Partenariat Régional pour la Conservation de la zone côtière et Marine en Afrique de l'Ouest (PRCM); and Wetlands International.
SAVi is an innovative modelling tool developed by IISD's public procurement and sustainable infrastructure financing team. It assesses the financial attractiveness of a sustainable infrastructure project by monetizing risks and externalities related to social, environmental and economic aspects.
The IISD team also met with several stakeholders involved in infrastructure project planning, financing and deployment in Senegal. This resulted in a future workplan for Senegal consisting of capacity-building workshops on SAVi with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, as well as pilot applications of SAVi on key PPP infrastructure projects in Senegal in the coming months.
